CALL for ENTRIES: Art & Science
State of the San Francisco Estuary, a Biennial Conference
October 28 - 29, 2025
Scottish Rite Temple, Oakland, CA
Submission Deadline: August 31, 2025
At the encouragement of SF Estuary Partnership conference organizers, WEAD is soliciting proposals for interactive, science-based works that address a broad range of topics as they affect the massive SF Estuary system. Some possibilities include: the status of fauna, flora or microorganisms; water quality issues; the impacts of climate change; flooding and drought; marine, brackish or freshwater gradient; efforts regarding conservation and restoration.
This is an unusual opportunity to install your artwork in a large science conference with regional and statewide attendees; a chance to engage directly with scientists who may share your interests.
3D, freestanding works or tabletop works are especially encouraged. Videos may also be possible.
No artwork may be affixed to the walls in this historic suite.
Easels may be used for 2D works.
Preference will be given to proposals that demonstrate some level of interactivity.
You might consider “game” structures, puzzles, manipulation, or active dialogue.
A jury, including a scientist, will select up to 7 proposals by individuals or teams.
A small stipend ($100 per submission) will be available to cover materials, transportation and parking for accepted artists.
