We
live in an epoch in which the familiar boundaries between nature and culture
are fading. We have the capacity to destroy most of life on earth in an
instant or force nature to produce on demand and to our specifications.
What separates human and animal, what determines what is natural and artificial
is not as clear as it once was. My work is informed by cross-disciplinary
discourses that analyze the nature/culture boundary, drawing on cultural,
feminist, and environmental studies. I combine the real and the virtual
to explore how nature has been "produced" throughout history,
and how technology and bioengineering are rewriting the territories of
nature and culture. Recent projects include gallery installations on a
former NATO base in Germany, and a 7-year collaboration, "Infinity
City," that investigates 50 years of living with the Bomb.
