Colette R. Palamar
I am an interdisciplinary scholar and artist, with a Ph.D. in Philosophy, an MFA, in Visual Arts, and a MS in Environmental Science. My artwork bridges those disciplines with an ultimate aim of engaging my audience visu- ally, viscerally, playfully, and critically. One recent project, Kingdom Argilla, involved the creation of an entire Kingdom of organismsall now extinctand the environmental mythology explaining their demise. The series contains a field guide, maps of their distribution, an identification key, and information on each individual genus. Another recent project, Cartographies of Consumption uses brightly colored paintings to reflect upon the "development" and consumption patterns in contemporary North America. Through these paintings, I hope to playfully engage my viewers with issues of urban sprawl and overconsumption. |
