ARTWORK: Un-stretched mixed media paintings and back-drops

I am continually drawn to the many forms and patterns of the natural world. My most recent work is centered around female figures, women and young girls, amidst nature; plants, birds, deer, earth, water. . .Experience and awareness of nature has always lead me into myself, revealing parts deeply feminine, dark, subconscious – parts which I previously fiercely protected. For me, these works document the surfacing of these previously unrecognized parts, and the blurring of boundaries. The figures take on the colors of the water, sky and foliage, merging and combining with the life around them. I am of the mind that deep healing is possible and necessary through recognition of one’s connection to the earth.

Almost all of the pieces I make are on un-stretched, lightly primed or unprimed canvas or other fabric. Some also incorporate other media such as; beeswax, vintage buttons, sea grass, hand made paper, various fibers and fabrics (some hand-dyed), and simple stitching.

I have been exhibiting my work in galleries and alternative settings in the mid-west and on the east coast for the past several years. In addition to my work as an artist, I also am an Art Specialist, working with pre-school age children. It is an open studio format program that I have been developing and implementing for the past six years. I received a BFA in Fiber Art and Drawing in 1997.
