Ribbon Worm / Tide Pools

Endangered Garden
Candlestick Cove, San Francisco, California
Tidal Sculpture
1987 - 97

In 1987 I was asked to co-design a new thirty million dollar sewer for San Francisco. By burying the sewer, its roof could become a baywalk, thirty feet wide and one-third of a mile long. Ribbon Worm/Tide Pools serves as a path down to the beach, and forms a transition between baywalk and bay. At high tide the wormÕs lower loops fill with water, creating habitat for vertically zoned intertidal communities.
