Bentley Wildfowl Reserve, East Sussex.
1995
8ft/2.5m H x 18ft./5.5m W
Growing oak and pine trees, recycled
polythene, garden netting

Formed using simple traditional technology—stapling, binding, knotting and sewing. Wind, rain and sun were important elements. The polythene came into its own as a waterproof, protective material, lifting up and then flapping down as the wind passed freely through. The strong play of light through the polythene created sparkling patterns and shadows, and projected colour on to the surrounding ground. The intense colour of the sculpture could be seen from a long way into the woods.
